Keep the fire going

Don’t Mind the Fire takes a few hours each week to research and produce, and I want to continue to give it the time and attention it deserves. To do that, I provide memberships for those who would like to support the ongoing time, energy, and cost of researching, writing, and producing it.

All funds go directly to covering subscription costs for the tools I use to collect and manage the content and the production of the newsletter. Perhaps most importantly, members keep the newsletter independent and free from advertising.

Like Jason KottkeTim Carmody, and others, I am doing this as an “unlocked commons” project, which means there are no paywalls and no exclusive content. As Tim points out:

The most powerful and interesting media model will remain raising money from members who don’t just permit but insist that the product be given away for free. The value comes not just what they’re buying, but who they’re buying it from and who gets to enjoy it. The bigger those two pools get — the bigger the membership, and the bigger the audience — the better it gets for everyone.

In short: the newsletter will remain free, and there will never be any ads. Members help take some of the production pressure off while keeping the content available to everyone.

That said, I do send infrequent emails to members with personal updates, apps and things you might enjoy checking out, and reflections that almost but not quite fit into the focus of the main newsletter.

If all of this sounds good to you, then let’s go! And thank you, thank you, thank you for your support 🙏.
